The mayor is the Chief Executive Officer of the city and is responsible for all operations within each City department. The mayor appoints each department head and many board and commission members and presides over the Common Council and the Board of Public Works.
The mayor is ultimately responsible for the enforcement of City ordinances, compliance with state and federal statues, signing all bonds, deeds, contracts for the City and approving or vetoing ordinances and resolutions.
The mayor’s term of office is four years with no restrictions on the number of terms one can serve. A candidate for mayor must reside within the city and must have been a resident of Attica for at least one year.
