The Board of Works and Safety for the City of Attica met, pursuant to Public Notice, on Tuesday, April 20th, 2021, at 5:00 P.M. in the City Council Room.
Present was Board Member, Andy Smart and Chris Gayler, also present, Mayor Duane Roderick and Clerk-Treasurer Joanne Broadwater.
Minutes from the previous meeting:
Gayler made a motion to approve the minutes from the March 25th and April 26th, 2021 meetings, Smart seconded, all were in favor, and the motion passed.
Citizen Sandra Dunnick spoke to the board as concerned citizen. She is concerned about the property across the street from her, owned by Brian Craft, being turned into apartments. She states there is not adequate parking to accommodate residents of the apartments.
Her second concern is all the old trees that are being cut down around her home, she was not given any notification beforehand.
The final item is the building next to Farley’s Corner Pub, the person who owns it is putting in two apartments in the tiny building.
Sandra stated that she has trouble with patrons of Farley’s corner pub conducting “business” at all hours of the day and night. She has been informed that drugs are being dealt out of the Farley’s corner pub. Because of the activity at Farley’s, she is concerned about more apartments so close to her and the pub.
Sandra wanted to know how the public was notified about the downtown buildings being torn down. Roderick stated the public was notified by public meetings. Smart provided some history on the downtown buildings.
Department Head Reports:
Director of Public Works, Eric Swank had nothing to report.
Acting Police Chief, Kyle Askren has purchased ammunition and the city supply is back to normal, in light of the nationwide shortage.
Attica Fire Chief, Mike Little, was not present.
Building Commissioner, Jeff Pycke,
- 424 East Main St. – was issued an unsafe building order.
Economic Development Director, Rod Bannon, was not present.
Smart made a motion to approve the utility credits, Gayler seconded, all were in favor, motion passed.

The claims were presented by Mayor Roderick, Smart made a motion to approve claims, Gayler seconded. All were in favor and the motion passed.
There being no further business, Smart made a motion to adjourn, Gayler seconded, the meeting was adjourned. The next Board of Works meeting will be held on Tuesday May4th, 2021 at 5:00pm, in person, in the City Council meeting room.
