Date and time: 5:00 PM, October 8, 2019.
Present: Board President Andy Smart, Barbara Foster, Brian Duncan, Mike Nicolas, Guests and Members of the Public.
Location: Attica City Building conference room.
President Smart called the meeting to order and read the minutes of the previous monthly meeting.
Heather Hice, Indiana Sales representative for Snider Recreation, Inc. was introduced and offered information about modern playground design and equipment and answered questions about the subject. Among other things, she informed the board that of many playground surfaces, poured rubber is probably the best and will last about 30 years under normal use, and 12 to 15 under heavy use. She said they use the company Surface America to do poured rubber. She also informed the Board that there are many grants for playgrounds and that they could work through either their grant writer or ours. She also said that in her experience much more support can be found among local patrons and partners.
Brian Duncan reported that the HWC Engineering representative had canceled two previous meetings due to family medical emergencies but a new one is scheduled at the city pool at 3:00 PM on October 15th.
President Smart reported that after much communication with the contractor, the pickle ball courts are now nicely re-surfaced and marked.
Barb Foster suggested keeping the extra wind screen net as a spare. She asked about reworking the court entrances to exclude unauthorized uses.
It was reported that the two Arms Woods bridges cannot be replaced until spring.
Mike Nicolas reported there were eight sign-ups at the Parks table during the student volunteer expo at the Attica Jr/Sr High School and that he hopes this will be helpful in forming a Parks patron/ volunteer organization. He was careful to inform the students that the public parks belong to them as much as the rest of us.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:18 PM.
The next regular meeting will be Tuesday, November 12 at 5:00 PM in the courtroom of the Attica City Building.
