The Board of Works and Safety for the City of Attica met, pursuant to Public Notice, on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at 4:30 P.M. in the City Council Room.
Present were Board Members, Chris Gayler and Andy Smart, Mayor Roderick and Clerk -Treasurer, Susan Stoll.
Upon Motion duly made by Gayler and seconded by Smart, the minutes from the previous Board of Works Meeting for May 21, 2019, were approved.
There were no citizen’s petitions to be heard.
Department Head Reports
Eric Swank, Director of Public Works, was present with nothing to report.
Eddie Durnil spoke on behalf of the police department. The Police Merit Board will meet on June 5 to evaluate candidates to replace T.J. Powell.
Mr. Little, Fire Chief, was not present.
Jeff Pycke, Building Commissioner, was present. He was asked to inspect 804 S. Brady for building code violations. He will contact Mr. Barce for advice on a letter to send to the owner. He received a complaint about a pool with no fence near the football field. He will address this with the property owner.
Smart inquired on the status of acquiring bids for the demolition of 207/209 S. Perry and 923 S. Perry. The Mayor reported that he has not heard back from KJG Architecture on developing specs for the structure that shares a wall with an adjacent building. He asked Eric Smith/HWC, who was present, if he could recommend someone that could help develop specifications for demolition of the building. Eric reported he knows of someone out of Terre Haute. He will share that with the Mayor.
Utility credits were presented for consideration. Smart made a motion to approve all the credits and Gayler seconded. All were in favor and the motion passed.
Eric Smith from HWC presented pay requests #15 & 16 for Thieneman Construction for work performed at the sewage plant. He recommended that they be approved. Smart made a motion to approve both pay requests. Gayler seconded. All were in favor and the motion passed. Eric presented Change Order #6. He explained the nature of the changes contained in the document. Smart made a motion to approve Change Order # 6. Gayler seconded. All were in favor and the motion passed.
Claims in the amount of $ 115,788.74 were presented by Mrs. Stoll for approval. Gayler made a motion to approve the claims. Smart made a second to the motion. All were in favor and the motion passed.
Smart voiced concern about lack of visibility at the corner of 41 and Washington Street due to overgrown bushes. Mayor Roderick asked Ed Durnil to contact the homeowner to ask them to trim the bushes. If they don’t trim them the City will trim them.
Smart mentioned that a camper used Ouabache Park over Memorial Day weekend and the bathrooms were not open. He said the sign on the bathrooms say to call the Clerk’s Office to have them opened. Smart said this doesn’t work over weekends since the office is closed. He asked if the police non-emergency number could be provided instead.
Mayor Roderick asked Attica Volunteer Fireman, Troy Rhoutzhan, if the AFD is going to participate in the Warren County parade on June 15. Troy reported they are.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned, the next Board of Works meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at 4:30 pm.
