- Justin Harmeson, a Land Steward with Niches Land Trust attended and provided much useful professional information about the trees, plants, and environment of Atttica’s largest parks and offered advice on their proper management. After walking the Ravine Park and Arms woods trails, he said he was extremely impressed with the flora of the system and that the forest canopy contained some of the largest oaks and hickories he had seen.
He also mentioned the invasive alien plants that are becoming established and that they would eventually overtake and destroy the present woods if not controlled.
Mr. Harmeson also stated that this is the type of environment that Niches Land Trust likes to help preserve and recommended the type of program that Warren County had participated in with Niches to clear invasive plants and improve Cicott Park. He also submitted a list of recommended actions.
The Board is very grateful to Mr. Harmeson for his valuable information.
There was a discussion about establishing a tree screen between Ouabache Park and the water treatment plant.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:50 PM.
