Board of Works & Safety – December 18, 2018

The Board of Works and Safety for the City of Attica met, pursuant to Public Notice, on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at 4:30 P.M. in the City Council Room.

Present was Mayor Roderick and Board Members Mr. Smart and Mr. Gayler. Also, present was Mikki Hubbard, Deputy Clerk and City Attorney, Thomas P. O’Connor.

Upon Motion duly made by Mr. Smart, Mr. Gayler seconded to approve the minutes from the previous Board of Works Meeting for December 4, 2018. All were in favor and the motion passed.

Citizens petitions:

There were no citizen’s petitions to be heard.

Department Head Reports:

Ron Jean, Street and Water Supervisor was present, reported that the leaf vac would be out again on Friday.

Police Chief Bob Cole was present, with nothing to report.

Mr. Little, Fire Chief, was present reported they have received a couple grants totaling $4500.00 to finish up the ranger.

Jeff Pycke, Building Commissioner, was present and reported that he had received complaints regarding 2 properties owned by Zach Pitts on W. Monroe St.  There is a big hole needing to be filled in, they have hauled in dirt but didn’t fill the hole in, Mr. Pitts has been notified.

Unfinished Business:

Mr. O’Connor stated that Mr. Jarvis is filing Chapter 13 Bankruptcy.  Other debtors who have claims against this filing are $1,100.00 to pay the trustee and $400.00 of this $1100 has been claimed.  We have a claim for $135,000.00.

Chief Cole requested that the BOW adopt the rules of the Merit Board for any discipline of the Public Safety Officer going forward.  Mr. O’Connor stated that they should wait until after the first of the year to discuss this.

New Business:

Utility credits were presented by Mrs. Hubbard.  Mr. Gayler made a motion to approve the requests and Mr. Smart seconded the motion.  All were in favor and the motion passed.

Upon Motion duly made and carried, the claims, as presented were approved.

Miscellaneous Business:

Tom O’Connor reported that there is no new information to share about the Beaver property.  Tom has a call into Linda at the Assessor’s Office to gather more information.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:00 P.M. and the next Board of Works meeting will be held on January 8, 2019 at 4:30 pm.
