Call to Order
The Board of Works and Safety for the City of Attica met, pursuant to Public Notice, on Tuesday June 20, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. in the City Council Room.
Present were Mayor Roderick and Board Members Mr. Smart and Mr. Gayler. Also present were City Attorney, Thomas P. O’Connor and Clerk-Treasurer, Susan Stoll.
Approval of Minutes
Upon Motion duly made, seconded, and adopted, minutes from the previous Board of Works Meeting for June 6, 2017 were approved as written.
A citizen living in Lambert Trailer Court has concerns about the cities’ sewage line near his home. On June 29, HWC, our engineering consultant, will be in town and will address this issue
Department Head Reports
Ron Jean, Street and Water Supervisor, present, nothing to report.
Police Chief Bob Cole, present, reported that Officer Hohenstein graduated from the police academy. His Field Training is beginning. The new Police Merit Board member is Ed Greenwood.
Fire Chief, Ed O’Farrell, present, he reported that there were 27 runs in May and 25 thus far in June.
Jeff Pycke, the Building Commissioner, was not present. Mrs. Stoll relayed information Jeff wanted to share. The owners of 600 S. Perry St. have committed to repairing the front porch within 60 days.
Mr. Smart brought the Demolition bids to the table for discussion, Mr. Gayler seconded. Upon some discussion of the different bid amounts, Mr. Smart made a motion to sign the contract for service from Advanced Environmental for the asbestos survey and Demolition Environmental Services for the demolition of the one-story building to the west/rear of 106 S. Perry. Mr. Gayler seconded. All were in favor and the motion passed. The decision to award the demolition of the 3-story building will be suspended until the results of the asbestos surveys come back.
Mr. O’Connor spoke to Mr. Rice at 815 S. McDonald St. and he plans to remove the tree located between the street and the sidewalk at his residence.
There were no utility requests for this Board of Works.
Upon Motion duly made and carried, the claims, as presented were approved.
Mr. Smart asked Mr. O’Farrell for an update on the subject of the fire hydrants; Mr. O’Farrell has obtained a map of locations of fire hydrants in the City and will work on updating it.
Mr. O’Connor said he will inform the owner of 106 S. Perry, Mr. Jarvis, of our intent to begin this survey for asbestos and demolition work on his behalf.
Mayor Roderick reminded all about the July 1, 2017 festivities at McDonald Park and the fireworks that evening.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned and the next Board of Works meeting will be held on Wednesday July 5, 2017 at 4:30 pm.
